Local television station should help its neighbors
To the editor:
As the only local television station located in Aroostook County, WAGM not only has a responsibility and obligation to provide news to viewers in Aroostook and western New Brunswick, but also to become a part of those communities. Shame on you, WAGM, for not living up to your obligations to the viewers and business people that keep your station alive.
In the 1980s WAGM was at the forefront raising money for the flood victims when the Mississippi River flooded its banks. WAGM has also had many telethons in the past raising money for the United Way, Rotary Club, and many local agencies. Shame on you, WAGM, for not taking the lead in the major flood disaster only 13 miles to our east, in Perth Andover, New Brunswick, where hundreds of people are still unable to open their businesses or even reside in their homes.
These businesses have advertised on your station. Over the years the residents have spent millions of dollars here in Aroostook County. Families flow back and forth across the border to celebrate births, graduations, and weddings. WAGM, should be a key leader in the communities to help our neighbors.
Local? Maybe in proximity but certainly not in your heart. Reach out and touch someone in a positive manner by raising monies for our neighbors.
