The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors are 2-2 on the year under new head coach Kaylea Collier. Unfortunately, the Lady Warriors have two players on the injured list, as goalie Kennedi Smith and defensiveman Aimee Cottle are both sidelined with knee injuries.
Good news for the Lady Warriors is senior Desirae Dubois is back to action after recovering from knee surgery.
“I am very excited to have her back as it will add to our offensive play,” said Collier.
The Lady Warriors are preparing for several point-worthy games against Central Aroostook and Woodland.
“We have lost to both of these teams,” said Collier.
The Southern Aroostook girls also will face Ashland and according to Collier, “We expect them to be tough.”
When the season winds down, the Lady Warriors hope to be in the Class D playoff hunt.
“We have a strong defensive team for as young as we are,” she said. “We have been working a lot on generating more offense and getting more shots on goal. If we continue our defensive play and keep improving offensively we will persevere.”
At Woodland, the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors dropped their game 2-0 to the Dragons last Tuesday.
SACS goalie Katie Prescott had nine saves on 13 shot attempts.The Katahdin Lady Cougars split with their opponents on the week, as they fell to Bangor Christian, 8-1 and tied Hodgdon/GHCA, 2-2.
On Monday in Stacyville, Megan Merry rang up a goal off Kaycee Cintron’s pass for Katahdin’s only goal. Goalies Makayla Patterson and Courtney Stevens combined for 28 saves.
Bangor Christian’s Allison Turcotte had 14 saves in the contest.
The Lady Cougars ended last Friday night’s contest against Hodgdon/GHCA in a 2-2 tie.
Katahdin’s Sophie Vetter scored the tying goal six minutes into the second half and it held up through two overtime periods. Morgan Livezey scored the first Katahdin goal.
For Hodgdon/GHCA, Macy Palmer and Courtney Jurson each scored.
Katahdin goalie Patterson had 34 saves, while Hodgdon keeper, Marissa Malone, had 11.
The Hodgdon/GHCA girls soccer program is under the direction of first-year coach B.J. Barton.
“We have a young group of girls with great heart,” he said. “We have a tough schedule with some strong teams ahead.”
The girls are 0-5 on the season.
The Hodgdon/GHCA girls team will be led by center forward McKensie Palmer, center halfback Lacey McQuarrie and goalie Marissa Malone.
“We are improving every game, as they adapt to playing as a team,” Barton added.
Rounding out the squad are: Rachel Harmon, Jammie Theriault, Jurson, Hannah Sherman, Jessi Tracy, Macy Palmer, Valerie Esterbrook, Cassidy Clark, Deanna Foster, Ellen McAfee, Molly Veysey and Morgan Wiegand.
In last Tuesday’s action, Penobscot Valley High School overpowered host Katahdin, 15-1.
Megan Merry scored Katahdin’s only goal, while goalie Patterson combined with Courtney Stevens for 15 saves on 46 shots faced.
Also played last Tuesday, the Hodgdon/GHCA girls were overtaken by visiting Central Aroostook, 7-0.
The Lady Panther scorers were Breanne York with three goals, followed by Karli Levesque with two, and Delaney Grass and Marissa one apiece.
