New fitness classes offered

    The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering two new sessions of fitness classes. All classes require a registration by Sept. 17. The classes being offered will run for eight weeks and for starting dates or more information, call 532-1310.

    Zumba — This class will be held each Tuesday and Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. Lura Griffin is the instructor for this Latin-inspired, dance fitness class. The class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion. Cost is $40 for Houlton residents and $60 for non-Houlton residents. Participants should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes.

    PiYo — Classes will be held each Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m.. Yvonne Hyman will be the instructor for this Yoga and Pilates inspired low impact workout. Upbeat music and rhythmic movements burn calories, build muscle, sculpt and tone, while adding flexibility. Cost will be $40 for Houlton residents and $60 for non-Houlton residents. Participants should bring their own mat and wear comfortable clothes. Hand weights are optional.
