Raffle tickets still available
The Bridgewater Historical Association still has raffle tickets for their “Dance for the Dogs” project. Glenni, a canine Maine state trooper, will be this year’s beneficiary of the project. Though his down time is spent with his partner, Chad Fuller and his family, there are times when Glenni needs his own space. Therefore we are raising money to purchase a covered pen so he will have that space. Should Glenni no longer need the pen in the future, the pen will be passed to another canine state trooper.
The first prize in the raffle is a handmade quilt made by Shirley Drew, second prize a woodcarving by Dee and Phyllis Cote, and the third prize is a food basket. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Please contact the BHA to purchase tickets.
The winning tickets will be drawn on Dec. 8 at the BHA’s Christmas Party at Bonanza. We thank everyone for their support on this project. To purchase tickets, contact Bridgewater Historical Association, PO Box 341, Bridgewater, ME 04735 or call Jann Votaw, BHA president, at 425-7901.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Kim Smith of the Presque Isle Historical Society. The PIHS owns three properties: the Vera Estey House Museum, the Presque Isle Fire Station and the Maysville Grange.
The Vera Estey House, built in 1875 and located on Third Street, was left to the Historical Society in 1992 to use as a museum. They have open houses and special tour times can be arranged.
The Presque Isle Fire Station on Church Street was acquired in 2001 and is undergoing renovations as funds permit. To date, there have been $300,000 in renovations done, although there is a long way to go as the building is estimated to need $2 million of work done.
The latest building they acquired in 2011 was the Maysville Grange on the Caribou Road, which will become a museum highlighting the Aroostook War and the 21 one-room schoolhouses that served Presque Isle. This building needs around $200,000 in renovations, which will also be done as funds allow.
The PI Historical Society has several tours and presentations they do and will set up exhibits and displays around the county if requested. They now have a permanent display at the Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle. For more information on the Society, visit www.pihistory.org, call 762-1151 or e-mail pihistoricalsociety@hotmail.com.
