On Jan. 10 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Recruit Jacob Ferland and Tr. Dennis Quint of the Maine State Police were conducting a traffic stop of a vehicle on Rt. 11 in Sherman.
While seated in their cruiser filling out paperwork, a second vehicle traveling past them failed to move over and struck the driver’s side of Ferland’s cruiser and then continued on. Ferland was able to catch up to the vehicle a short distance up the road and get it stopped.
The operator of the vehicle, Samantha Hashey, 31, of Sherman, was arrested for aggravated criminal mischief and summonsed for improper passing of an emergency vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ferland’s cruiser, a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, sustained damage to the suspension from the collision rendering it inoperable and was towed from the scene. Hashey’s vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo sustained damage to the front passenger side and was towed from the scene. The vehicle that had been stopped for the traffic violation was not struck.
