Blood donors make a real difference

To the editor:

It was a pleasure to read about the Caribou High School Student Council sponsoring a blood drive. I live in the local area and have a rare blood disorder that requires me to receive blood transfusions frequently. Before each transfusion, two nurses have to do a safety check, with one nurse stating the information on the unit I am to receive and the other checking the safety list on paper to be sure things match up. Each time the donor’s number is read I always say “thank you” from my heart to that person. I will never know who you are, but you have done a wonderful thing for me.

To all who participate in blood drives, whether blood is needed for surgery, emergencies, medical conditions and so many other reasons, we the recipients are always so grateful for what you have done — truly given us the gift of life.

To all the CHS students who organized and donated blood, I want to commend you for your support in such a critical area. You will never know who you helped but the person receiving your blood will know there was someone out there who cared enough to give them life-sustaining help. Be proud of your accomplishments!

A grateful recipient
