SACAP artists critique group to meet

HOULTON — Visual artists of all levels of experience are invited to attend the next meeting of the new critique group for artists hosted by the Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project. The group will meet at the Visions art gallery at 66 Main St. in Houlton on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 6-8 p.m.

The critique group is open to all visual artists, from beginner to professional, working in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, textile arts and graphic design. This will be an open forum for artists to share feedback on each other’s work.
Artists are encouraged to bring one or two pieces of work to share with the group. Join us for a great opportunity to get constructive feedback from a variety of your peers, as well as a chance to share your work in a supportive and encouraging environment. This is a great way to grow as an artist and to share techniques, experiences and ideas with other artists in the community.
“Artists make art because they are trying to communicate something; to transform an idea or a feeling into some kind of tangible object that allows them to share their idea with others, said Littleton artist Frank Sullivan, who will be facilitating the group. “Honest feedback from other working artists can help one evaluate the level to which one’s own work effectively communicates to an audience. Many aspiring artists tend to work in isolation, and the only feedback that they get on their work comes in the form of flattery from friends and family members, who may be disinclined to risk hurting the artist’s feelings or who simply don’t have the experience or vocabulary to be able to offer critical feedback. The critique group is designed to provide a forum in which artists at all levels can share honest, constructive feedback, as well as technical information and conceptual ideas, with one another in an atmosphere that fosters individual artistic growth.”
For further information, artists may contact Frank Sullivan by telephone at 538-9416 or via e-mail at frank@rainbarrow.net.
