SHERMAN – John Colby Heath, 53, passed away March 5, 2013, after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. John was born Dec. 9, 1959, the son of Donald Sr. and Doris (Blakely) Heath of Sherman.
He graduated from Katahdin High School and continued to work on his family farm for more than 33 years, carrying on a tradition that reaches as far back as pre-Civil War. C&J Farms, named in honor of his grandfather, Colby Heath, was the result of his many years of hard work, determination and sacrifice. John spent the last few years working alongside his brother – as they had when children on the farm – at Heath Distributers, a family business.
John enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing stories and passing along advice to his children, nephews, nieces and all those that he thought may need a little help. John was also actively involved in town politics, serving several terms as town selectman of Sherman. He was known for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and always seemed to leave a lasting impact on those he talked to.
In addition to his parents, John Heath is survived by his wife, Christine Heath; son, Jacob Colby Heath; and stepchildren, Cathleen, Allison and Stewart Noyes, all of Sherman; sons, Joel Lane Heath and his fiancée, Kristen, of Sherman, Dustin Colby Heath and his wife, Collette, as well as their son and the only grandchild, Tate Colby Heath of Presque Isle; and their mother, Kathy Heath of Sherman. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Heath and wife, Irene, of Carmel and Robert Heath and wife, Rosalie, of Sherman; sister, Lisa Heath of Sherman; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. John was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Colby and Ruby Heath; maternal grandparents, Elzie and Cathryn Blakely; paternal great-grandfather, Eli King; great-grandmother, Laura Heath; and uncle, Richard Heath.
The family of John Colby Heath wishes to thank the staff of Millinocket Regional Hospital, the Lafayette Family Cancer Center staff, and the many doctors and nurses who helped John throughout his battle with cancer.
