To the editor:
Those of us who are interested, invested and active participants in the state’s legislative life often call our elected officials to urge them to support certain initiatives or fight against certain legislation. Too often, we neglect a tremendously important part of the process which is to thank a legislator who really comes through and does the right thing. I wanted to take the time to do just this by sending in a letter to thank Representative Carol McElwee.
Rep. McElwee is supporting legislation for Maine to accept federal funding to expand access to health insurance to almost 70,000 Mainers, many of whom are between jobs and struggling to make ends meet. This money is offered to all states through the Affordable Care Act. With Rep. McElwee’s support and others from around the state, the bill moves forward in the spirit of bi-partisanship and this is exciting to see.
Helping our citizens receive health care coverage isn’t a party issue. It is simply the right thing to do both from a human and financial standpoint. So kudos to Rep. McElwee for doing the right thing for her constituents!
