PIHS honors winter athletes at ceremony

    PRESQUE ISLE — Students from Presque Isle High School were lauded for their individual efforts in athletics March 18 and 19. The following is a recap of the awards handed out at the two ceremonies.

    Receiving jackets for being senior athletes lettering all four years in one sport were Karlee Bernier (basketball), Chandler Guerrette (basketball), Megan Ireland (basketball), Meredith Stewart (basketball), Adam Flynn (hockey), Scott Rhynold (hockey), Thomas Freeman (skiing), Jonathan Rochester (skiing), Emma Bartlett (skiing) and Gabe Player (skiing). Bernier, Guerrette, Ireland and Flynn had already received their jackets in a different sport.
    Receiving sweatshirts (athletes with six varsity letters in any combination of varsity sports) were: Dustin Drabek (cross country, swimming and track and field), Kelsey Corriveau (fall cheering, winter cheering and track and field), Katelyn Michaud (fall cheering, winter cheering and baseball manager) and Lauren Schiff (cross country, skiing and track and field).
    The following awards were also presented:
    Varsity cheering (coach Jenna Bradstreet) — Receiving their first-year letter were freshmen Madison Bagley, Michelle Cawley, Lindsey Lagerstrom, Alexandra Michaud, Kellsey Michaud and Madison Postell and sophomores Renee Browning, Emily Buckley, Madalyn Caron, Ashley Cote and Lazareth Porquin; second-year, juniors Katelyn Michaud and Kelsie Spooner and seniors Justena Cleeland, Mary Green, Kenedy Jarvis and Cassandra Lunney; third-year, seniors Kelsey Corriveau and Rachel Dow.
    Girls swimming (coach Joyce Price and assistant Karrie Brawn) — Receiving a certificate was sophomore manager Jessica Baldwin. Receiving second-year letters were sophomore Olivia Goulet, junior Laura Watson and senior Emma Michalowski; third-year, juniors Sara Gilson, Jacqueline Lambert, Naomi McEachern and Heather Nadeau.
    Boys swimming (coaches Price and Brawn) — Receiving their first-year letters were sophomore Matt Burtt and junior Lewis Amero; second-year, sophomores David Cyr, Keegan Ennis and Brenden Goulet; third-year, juniors Nate DeWitt, Dustin Drabek, Alex Hemphill and Joshua Jones.
    Nordic skiing (coach Sarah Dominick and assistant Von Perry) — Receiving a certificate was senior Freeman Short. Receiving their first-year letters were freshmen Emily Colligan, Alyssa Sweeney, Jason Bartley and Gannon Therrien; second-year, sophomores John Freeman and Noah Rossignol, junior Danielle Allen and senior Joel Shay; third-year, junior Bonnie Corey; fourth-year, seniors Thomas Freeman and Rochester.
    Alpine skiing (coach Doug Guerrette) — Receiving letters were: first-year, freshmen Alyssa Sweeney and Bryce Smith and sophomore John Freeman; second-year, sophomores Cameo Madore and Chris Carroll and junior Kyle MacCallum; third-year, juniors Shannon Sweeney and manager Lauren Schiff and senior Amanda Bennett; fourth-year, seniors Bartlett, Thomas Freeman and Player.
    Ice hockey (coaches Carl Flynn and Darren Carlisle) — Receiving a certificate was junior manager Shea Brown; first-year letters went to: freshmen Jillian Flynn, Oliver Gerrish, Cooper Madore and Reece McDougall; second-year, sophomores Daniel Boucher, Jeremy Gingrich, Colin McKay, Alex Michaud and Joseph Patenaude and juniors Trevor Levesque, Ryder Soucy and manager Clarissa Buck; third-year, juniors Andrew Michaud, Michael Michaud and Tyler Seeley; fourth-year, seniors Flynn and Rhynold.
    Junior varsity II boys basketball (coach David Whitaker)  — Receiving certificates were: freshmen Noah Kinney, Steven Kinney, Parker Lambert, Brycen Libby, Michael Mahon and Dakota Philbrook; and sophomores James Churchill, Bradley Guerrette, Taylor Miller, Kyle Nadeau, Devin Smart and managers Macy Desmond and Aubrie Gross.
    Junior varsity girls basketball (coach Tim McCue) — Receiving certificates were: freshmen Olivia Hudson, Leslie Mejia, Alyssa Trombley; sophomores Erin Ackerson, Emma Kinney, Jordi Legassie, Megan Seward, Kalie Ward and Morgan Wilcox; junior Kaleigh Kinney; and senior Amelia Sharp.
    Junior varsity boys basketball (coach Ron McAtee) — Receiving certificates were: freshmen Sam Gray, Connor Murchison, Kyle Rider and Byron Winslow; sophomores Keegan Lowe, Carter McLaughlin, Chase Norton and Andrew Paterson; juniors Mitchell Ayotte, Joshua Gordon, Aaron Kofstad, Conor Seward and managers Blair Bailey and Paige Gagnon.
    Varsity girls basketball (coach Jeff Hudson) — Receiving first-year letters were freshmen Regan Nelson and Taylor Williams and seniors Kayla Girardin and managers Amelia Sharp and Kali Warner; second-year, sophomores Hannah Graham and Krystal Kingsbury, junior manager Mikayla Albert and senior manager Kate McKenna; third-year, seniors Laurin Ackerson and Liza Buck; fourth-year, seniors Bernier, Guerrette, Ireland and Stewart.
    Varsity boys basketball (coaches Terry Cummings and Greg Whitaker) — Receiving certificates were sophomores Carter McLaughlin and Chase Norton and manager Isaac Michaud; and juniors Drew Bates, Karson Eaton, Aaron Kofstad and managers Blair Bailey, Paige Gagnon and Rendalyn Mortland; first-year letters, sophomore Ben Nickerson, juniors Michael Boone, Cody Lyford and Bradley Shields; and seniors Corey Willette and Jacob Williams; third-year, seniors Tyler Brooks and Jonah Stephenson.
