Nick Bragg, a senior at Washburn District High School, and son of Mark and  Diana Bragg, has been selected to receive the 2013 Principal’s Award, according to Assistant Principal Ericson. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

“Throughout his years at Washburn High, Nick has distinguished himself in the classroom and as an outstanding athlete. He has played high school soccer for four years and was selected to All Eastern Maine, All-Aroostook for three years and received the Butch Shaw award this year. Nick has played baseball for three years and will be playing his fourth year this season. He is a three-time recipient of the MVP award in baseball and also been selected to All-Aroostook three times,” he said.
“Nick ran cross country for two years and won the county championship one year and received MVP two years. Nick played basketball all four years in high school. He was selected to be part of the Senior All-Star team this year. He was Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year, is a member of the WDHS woodworking club and was selected by the faculty as Student of the Month twice. Nick is a very quiet young man that leads by example. He is highly respected not only by the faculty and staff, but also by his peers. Our community and school are very proud of Nick. He very much deserves this special recognition,” continued Ericson.
Bragg, Assistant Principal Ericson and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler.  Mr. McGowan and Mr. Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 140 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
