Island Falls unveils new town website

ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The town of Island Falls has unveiled a new website to aid its residents with municipal functions and streamline activity at the town office.

According to Town Manager David Dionne, the town recently upgraded its technology so that residents can now register their vehicles, boats or other items online via the town’s website (www.islandfalls me.us) as part of the “Rapid Renewal” system.
“This will be a convenient way for people to register or pay a number of items without having to come in and stand in line, or they can be out of state and still complete these transactions,” Dionne said. “We are also closing in on allowing credit card/online check transactions for the New Year, which is my best guess. Once we are comfortable with these current upgrades, we will be looking to move forward to allow online dog registrations, utility payments, and property tax payments, later in the year possibly.”
By visiting the website, residents can follow links to get to the state’s website (https://www1.maine.gov/online/bmv/rapid-renewal/) for license renewals. The town can also do boat registrations online at https://www5. informe.org/online/boat/. Snowmobile and ATV registrations can also be performed.
Additionally, residents can view local ordinances, agendas for upcoming meetings of the Board of Selectmen, minutes from past meetings, review town departments and find links to other online services.
The town is also working to introduce debit/credit card transactions both through its website and in person at the town office.
“We did a little updating this summer in August to get us to the point now where we will be pushing forward,” Dionne said. “By the middle to end of December we should have all the kinks worked out and be live. Sooner if possible.”
The revisions to the website were prompted by requests from local residents.
“Since I have been here people have been asking to use debit/credit cards (in the town office) and unfortunately we had to say ‘no,’” Dionne said. “This will be changing very soon and customers will have more options and access to services that otherwise would only be made available in person.
