STACYVILLE — Over the weekend, Pam McGary and her husband witnessed a meteorite in Stacyville. McGary at first thought it was a shooting star, but realized it was not.
The meteorite was half red and the other half green, said McGary.
The couple watched as it “burst out, all around,” she said.
McGary’s husband has a high interest in the solar system and is quite adept in the field.
McGary said, “If he had thought it was a shooting star, I would have not said it was anything else.”
Another teacher friend of McGary’s saw the meteor in the same time frame as when the couple saw it in Stacyville. “He didn’t see it vaporize because it was behind some hills,” McGary said. ‘It was much closer to me.”
