Bridgewater Fire Department distributes smoke detectors

BRIDGEWATER — Members of the Bridgewater Fire Department recently spent an evening  going door to door handing out smoke detectors in an effort to make sure all town residence have working detectors in their home during the heating season.

Funds for the smoke detectors were provided by the Aroostook County Fire Chiefs Association’s Fire Education and Prevention grant.
Fire Department members canvassed the town utilizing their fire apparatus as well as 6 personal vehicles in an effort to reach as many households as possible.
Chief Troy Bradstreet brought the idea to the department officers this past spring while traveling to the Aroostook County Fire Chiefs Association meeting in St. Agatha.
Since that time many hours have gone into the grant writing and application process, as well as planning and distribution of the detectors.
Competitive prices were researched and the fire department was able to procure 500 smoke detectors from a local retailer.
