Tennis team dominates

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Northern Maine Community Recreation Association’s summer championship season kicked off last Tuesday with the tennis singles tournament held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Twenty-four players from both Caribou and Presque Isle participated.
In the 10-12 girls’ division, Madison Stratton defeated Livia Bouchard, 8-2, in an all-Caribou final.
For the boys, Caribou’s Parker Deprey scored an 8-0 triumph over his younger brother, Sawyer, to win the championship.
In 13-15 girls, Gabrielle Marquis of Caribou defeated Sarah Morneault of PI in the title match, 8-3. On the boys’ side, Brennen Poitras of Caribou downed Gabe Rand of Caribou, 8-5, in a division which included eight participants — the most of all the age groups.
Hilary Boucher of Presque Isle was uncontested in taking the trophy for the 16-18 girls’ category, while Michael Marquis of Caribou overwhelmed PI’s Byron Winslow in the boys’ final.
The NMCRA doubles tennis tournament will take place today in Caribou beginning at 9 a.m.
