To the editor:
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and as a part of the month, Hope & Justice Project is hosting a walk to end abuse called Walk It Up, Presque Isle! on Friday, Oct. 17. Hope & Justice Project is the domestic violence resource center for Aroostook County.
Walk It Up, Presque Isle! is a light (0.6 mile), lunch-time walk that will start and finish at the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library. Participants are encouraged to pre-register online. The first 100 participants to register will receive a purple Domestic Violence Awareness Month T-shirt and a brown-bag lunch. Purple is the awareness color for domestic violence.
At 11 a.m., participants who did not register online can register in person and all participants can pick up their T-shirts. At this time, children can take part in Story Time and a craft activity with Hope & Justice Project educators.
At noon, we will walk a short loop around downtown Presque Isle as a parade of purple to send the message that our community does not tolerate abuse and violence. As soon as we return to the library, lunch will be served and there will be several door-prizes to give away.
