‘The Hill’: Continued
REMEMBER WHEN
Last time I told the basic story of sledding on “The Hill.” A short time after we discovered how much fun it was, another friend of ours, Don, decided he would like to try out his three and a half-foot toboggan on “The Hill.” Most people know that a toboggan is virtually unsteerable on crust or packed trail.
Ricky and I went first and stopped at the bottom to watch Don make his run.
Now, at the foot of the trail was a page wire fence that ran along the edge of a field. It had a gate about wide enough for a snowmobile or a cow to get through. This gate had a fence post on either side to hold the wire fence.
Don tried to get through the gate and missed. His toboggan collided with the right side post at just about center of his toboggan. Doing so pitched him head over heals for about 40 feet, filled his snowsuit with snow and washed his face.
When we headed back to the top of “The Hill,” we realized that unless he used his toboggan for skis, he would never slide on it again as it had split in half down the middle.
We had made our fun for that day.
