ST. PETERSBURG, FL & PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Shirley Coffey Prince, 89 years young, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2014. Shirley was born on August 19, 1924, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Ernest and Eva Coffey. She moved to St. Petersburg, FL, in her early 20’s. There, she met Walter Edward Prince, who became her husband of 52 years. Shirley worked first as a Secretary for the Superintendent of Schools, then for the Veteran’s Administration and the Census Bureau.
Shirley enjoyed square dancing, piano playing, and sang in church choirs and with Sweet Adelines. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Good natured and kind hearted, she always had a smile and a good word. She had a spry sense of humor and a love for theater and music.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Walter; as well as her brother, Arnold Coffey.
She is survived by her sister, Irene Allen of Presque Isle, ME; her daughter, Debra Blaker of Eugene, OR; and her sons, Stephen L. Prince of Kerville, TX, and Edward A. Prince of Duluth, GA; as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial was held in St. Petersburg, FL, at the Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, where she was laid to rest with her husband, Walter. The interment occured at the gravesite with family and friends. Loving wife, mother and grandmother, Shirley will be surely missed by relatives and friends alike. After living a long and fulfilled life, may she rest in peace.
