Doris Audrey (McDonald) Ayers
AYERS, Doris Audrey (McDonald), 79, EASTON, at Caribou, March 18, 2015. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Interment will take place later in the spring at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. Arrangements are under the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.
EASTON – Doris Audrey (McDonald) Ayers, 79, wife of the late Thomas O. Ayers, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, March 18, 2015, at a Caribou healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born July 18, 1935, in Rutland, VT, the only child of William R. and Eunice M. (Ross) McDonald.
Doris graduated from Rutland High School in 1953 and did a lot of traveling as a young woman and lived in many cities such as New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, CA, West Palm Beach, FL, and Waterbury, CT.
Doris was married to Thomas O. Ayers on December 24, 1970, in Waterbury, CT, sharing 34 years of marriage prior to his passing on May 3, 2005. Tom and Doris co-owned a construction company in Middlebury, CT, as well as two general stores; Northfield General Store in Northfield, CT and East Lempster General Store “The Chatter Box” in East Lempster, NH. They sold the stores and retired to Easton in 1998.
Mrs. Ayers was predeceased by her father, William R. McDonald and her mother, Eunice M. (Ross) McDonald Cappelletti; as well as her husband, Thomas O. Ayers. Doris leaves behind a very special person whom she thought of as her “daughter”, Debra Pelkey and her husband Donald of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick; one brother-in-law, David Ayers and his wife, Connie of Milton, NH; many cousins and very special friends, Barbara Alexander and Elizabeth Martin.
In keeping with Doris’ wishes, there will be no calling hours. Interment will take place later in the spring at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. The family would like to thank Cary Medical Center, nurses and staff, Dr. Djuanda, M.D., Val Theriault, Lisa Reed, and Barbara Alexander for the care and kindness they provided to Doris over the past several weeks.
