First-graders at Mill Pond School in Hodgdon have been learning how to do opinion writing.
Students learned how to engage the reader with a catchy introduction, how to state their opinion and give reasons to support their opinion, how to write an ending that makes the reader want to do something as well as give a rating. Students were able to write their opinions on a variety of topics including books, movies, restaurants, and games.
Michael Fitzpatrick: Tweet Tweet Cheep! It’s Angry Birds. I think you will love this game because you have to knock out the pigs and steal the eggs back. Then you can go to a different map to collect gold eggs on the way. If you go to the left, you will see a different kind of Angry Birds. I think the birds look awesome. That’s why I think you should play Angry Birds. I give it 5 birds!
Noah Bartlett: Did you ever wish you had superpowers like the Incredibles? I love the part when they beat up on a big robot and beat up Syndrome. Syndrome takes the baby in the sky. Then the baby beats up Syndrome. The Incredibles is the best movie ever to watch. This has a lot of danger. you can get the movie at Walmart. I give it 5 stars.
Aedon Sanders: Frosty the Snowman Do you like snowmen? In this movie Frosty came alive. The kids made Frosty out of snow. they gave Frosty a magic hat, and he came alive. For real, he told the kids he needed to go somewhere where he won’t melt. Frosty said, “I found a warm spot for you.” I think you will like Frosty. It is funny. I give it five frosties.
Padme Hardy: Do you like great food? You should go to Ruby Tuesday’s. They have really great food and they also have a great salad bar. They also have really good spaghetti. It is in Presque Isle. I think you should try it. I think you would like it. I give it 10 stars.
Jennell Jones: Do you like donuts? Well I have a restaurant for you. Dunkin Donuts has coffee and donuts. It is yummy. You just want to get more. If you want to eat Dunkin Donuts, well go there. I give this restaurant 5 donuts.
Paige Bosse: Do you like games? Well then I have a game for you. It is called Candy Land. A reason why I like this game is the colors are beautiful. Another reason is the fun you can have! Don’t leave home without it. I give this game 5 stars.
Wyatt Lee: Do you like the Superman movie? I think it is cool because he may fly in the sky. Another reason is he may laser something with his eyes. Watch this movie to see Superman laser bad guys with his eyes. I give this movie 5 stars.
Kevin Parent: Do you like birds and alligators? Well, I’ve got a book for you. It’s called Flap Your Wings. I like the pictures in the book. It is a fiction story. It is also a funny story because an alligator gets stuck in a tree. Read to find out what happens to the alligator. I give this book 5 stars.
Aubrey Swallow: Do you like rain? Well, if you do, go to a library to get Raindrops. The reason why I like this book is “Drop, drip, drop.” She woke up and looked out her window. The rain is falling on the flowers. Why I like this book is because I love snow, rain, hail, everything that falls from the sky. I love water. I give this book 51 raindrops.
