Wildcat track and field teams capture home meet

    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine The Wildcat track and field teams hosted a meet Thursday which included all the Aroostook County teams with the exception of Caribou. PI took advantage of the Vikings’ absence by registering victories in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions.

    PI scored 152 points in the girls’ meet and was followed by Fort Fairfield with 122.5.
The ’Cat boys had 159 points, with Limestone-MSSM the closest pursuer with 118.
The Wildcat girls were paced with wins by the  4 x 800 (Emily Colligan, Isabelle Jackson, Alyssa Sweeney and Mandy Graham), the 4 x 100 (Maddie Wing, Elizabeth Findlen, Karen Jones and Grace Player) and the 4 x 400 (Jackson, Jones, Graham and Sweeney) relay teams.
Regan Nelson of PI continued her dominance in throwing competitions, winning the javelin and the discus while taking second in the shot put.
Sweeney was second in the 800 and Player second in the high jump, Findlen second in the pole vault and Vogel second in the javelin to score significant points for the Wildcats.
Others with first-place showings were Ashley Levesque of Fort Fairfield in the 300 hurdles, Marissa Brouette of Fort Fairfield in the high jump and the pole vault and Gabrielle Wortman of Fort Fairfield in the triple jump.
On the boys’ side, Presque Isle was paced by a few first-place performances, turned in by Parker Lambert in the 110 hurdles, James Churchill in the racewalk, Connor Murchison in the high jump, Khasen Lowe in the triple jump, Keeghan Lowe in the shot put and Zach Rice in the long jump. The 4 x 100 relay team consisting of Rice, Murchison, Cameron Lahey and Chan Villatora also took first.
The Lowe brothers scored big points in other events, as Khasen was second in the long jump and Keeghan second in the javelin and the discus. PI’s Gavin Kelley was a solid contributor, taking second in both the 400 and the pole vault.
Boys’ first-place winners from neighboring schools included Brandon York of Fort Fairfield in the 400 and Kenzy Ronco of Washburn in the pole vault.
Presque Isle will also be the host school for the Aroostook League Championships, to be held Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
