Island Falls Notes

Mr. and Mrs. James Flye have recently spent a week in the Island Falls area and had a good time visiting all the many friends they have here. Jim was the minister for the United Baptist church for 20 years and is fondly remembered. He and Arlene now live in Philadelphia where their daughter, Janica, lives and he says it is quite nice there but some different from living here in the County — especially the traffic problem.

John Stevens has completed the weeks of rehab since his knee operation in March and is now fully recovered and able to go about with his regular tasks.
The Whittier Congregational Church will hold its annual Trash and Treasure sale on Aug. 27 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. There will be many tables full of many different sorts of “trash and treasures” plus a table full of homemade goodies made by the ladies of the parish. So bring your family and perhaps you will be lucky enough to find just what you needed to fill up an empty space in your home. Homemade ice cream will also be available, so come and enjoy and look around for your “treasure.”
Still quiet around my place now. I haven’t even seen a squirrel hopping from one tree to the other in search of food. I do see an occasional robin, and once in awhile a lone blue jay will appear.
The hummingbirds are still getting their meals from my new hummingbird feeder and the other day, when I checked it, it was about empty. So I brought it in, cleaned it, refilled it, and it wasn’t long before two or three of the little birds arrived and began eating their fill.
I have been out back trimming my rose bush, but have seen no new skunk holes in the area so maybe the pesky things are done digging up my back yard. I still keep hoping a deer will show up and maybe cooler weather will bring them to do their grazing.
