Quilters, Rotary making a difference
WASHBURN NEWS
By Beth Boddy
Make a Difference Day was Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 and two Washburn groups came together in the spirit of the day.
The first group was Washburn’s A Stitchin’ an’ a Givin’ quilting group. These ladies came together at the Trailrunners Clubhouse Saturday to work on quilts that are donated to Hospice of Aroostook. They make quilts throughout the year, which are distributed all throughout The County to those who are in hospice care. They donate their quilts four times throughout the year.
The donation given this Saturday was a total of 69 quilts, seven of which were given as comfort quilts to those in Washburn who needed them.
The second group making a difference was Washburn’s Rotary club. Rotary members went door to door Saturday collecting money to pay for polio vaccinations in Third World countries and canned goods for Washburn’s food pantry.
The group collected over $155, which will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
