Thibodeau wins NMCC Torchbearer Award

PRESQUE ISLE — The Northern Maine Community College Alumni and Friends Organization has presented its Torchbearer Award for 2015. Michael Thibodeau, who graduated from the college in 1977, was chosen unanimously by the group for his outstanding leadership of the organization and ongoing support of NMCC.

Thibodeau is the immediate past president of the Alumni and Friends Organization who brought the idea of a free-tuition raffle to the college. For the past three years, the raffle has been the signature fundraiser for the organization. Thibodeau joins past winners Cindy and Dennis Albert, Scott Carlin. Judy Hilton, Pat Sutherland and Richard Engels.

The Torchbearer’s Award was presented during Homecoming Weekend and the annual Alumni and Friends Organization dinner in October.

Thibodeau is the accounting manager at MMG Insurance in Presque Isle. He earned his associate’s degree in accounting from NMCC, his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Husson College, and obtained a certificate in human resources management from the University of Maine. In addition, he is a graduate of Stone and Webster Management School, Harvard/MIT Labor Relations School, Cornell University Institute for Labor Relations, Leadership Aroostook, the Institute on the Maine Economy, and the Purdue University College of Call Center Excellence.

Thibodeau serves on the Northern Maine Community College General Advisory Council and is a past member of the NMCC Foundation. In 2012, the foundation chose Thibodeau for its highest honor: the Eagle Award.

Also during the dinner, the Alumni Organization recognized NMCC’s Instructor of the Year, Greg Thompson, who teaches Life Sciences. Thompson was chosen for the award during commencement in May.
