     HILL, Charles “Charlie” Frederick, II, 94, MAPLETON, at Palm Bay, FL, December 12, 2015. A celebration of life gathering will be held 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

    MAPLETON — Charles “Charlie” Frederick Hill II, 94, passed away peacefully December 12, 2015, at his son’s home in Palm Bay, Florida. Charlie was born November 22, 1921, in Presque Isle, ME, the son of the late Charles F. (Fred) Hill and Ruth Blanche (Hartley) Hill Knowlton.
American Flag Color    He served his country in World War II from February 1941 to May 1945 in the Northern Solomons, New Guinea and Luzon. He received a commendation for saving two of his comrades when the ship he was on went down in the South Pacific. After service to his country, he worked in the dairy business delivering milk to homes in the Presque Isle area for both PA Ramsdell and Aroostook Farms Dairy.   He then went to work at Loring Air Force Base, civil service, in the heating plant where he received his heating engineer degree. He retired October 25, 1979.
    He is survived by his children, Sherida and her husband, Ralph Griffin of Orrington, ME, Nancy Lavway of Presque Isle, Charles and his wife, Lori of Palm Bay, FL, and Rocky and his wife, Andrea of Mapleton; brother, Lloyd Hill of Bullhead City, Az; sister, Sybil (Hill) Gurney of Bakersfield, CA; half-brother, Basil Knowlton; half-sisters, Leathea (Knowlton) Arnold, Maxine (Knowlton) Sawyer and Maryann (Knowlton) Prokopay; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Sue Rose, with whom he spent many enjoyable years at their home in New York and traveling in the North Maine Woods.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Kenneth Knowlton; wife, Nettie (McPherson) Hill; five siblings: Arline (Hill) White, Eldon (Bud) Hill, Wendell Hill, Roberta (Hill) Grant and Glen Hill; a half-sister, Linda Knowlton; two grandsons, Matthew Lavway and Ricky Hill; and great-grandson, Hunter Hill.
    A celebration of life gathering will be held 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle. Interment will be held in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. Online condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
