Maine Justice Stokes to address PIHS grads
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Ben Greenlaw, Presque Isle High School principal, has announced that Maine Superior Court Justice William R. Stokes will offer the keynote address at this year’s commencement.
The 2016 ceremony is set for Friday, June 10, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Presque Isle High School gymnasium. A ticket is required.
Stokes began practicing law in 1974 and has worked as assistant attorney general for the state of Maine, deputy attorney general in the criminal division of the Office of the Maine Attorney General, and was nominated by Gov. Paul LePage in 2014 as a Superior Court justice.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a law degree from Suffolk University Law School.
Active in his community, he served as a member of the school board and city council in Augusta from 2000-2011 and was mayor of the city from 2011-2014. He resides in Augusta with his wife, Diane Doyen, originally from Mapleton. They have two adult children, Alicia Ann and Liam James.
Greenlaw said, “We are honored to have Mr. Stokes as the keynote speaker at the Presque Isle High School Class of 2016 commencement. I’m sure he will have a great message for our graduates considering his experience in the courtroom as an attorney and now as a Superior Court Justice.”
