School names honor parts

     VAN BUREN, Maine — Officials at Van Buren District Secondary School have announced the 2016 honor parts for graduation, which will be held Friday, June 10, 2016 at 7 p.m.

          Cormier is the son of Jesse and Dawn Cormier of Van Buren. He is an active member of the National Honor Society and on the Student Senate, where he is president, as well as the Chess Club. He has been a captain while involved in many sports teams.Representing the Class of 2016 will be Kaleb Patrick Cormier, valedictorian; Thomas Joseph LaJoie, salutatorian; and Allison Paige Soucy, honor essayist.

     He has volunteered for many school events and at the Sanctuary Bible Camp.

     Cormier enjoys hunting, fishing, playing basketball and hanging out with his friends. He plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono in the fall to pursue a degree in engineering.

LaJoie is the son of Dominic and Rachel LaJoie of Van Buren. He is president of the National Honor Society, president of his senior class, and has been active in athletics over his high school career. He has played soccer, tennis, and basketball and was a captain of every team.

     Additionally, he is active in high school band, Chess Club, Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp, Youth Ministry and Voice of Democracy. He was selected to participate in the All-Aroostook Concert Band for the last seven years, most recently achieving first chair alto saxophone for his senior year.

     He has earned numerous awards throughout his high school career including Phi Beta Kappa, Gwen Turner Scholarship and the St. Timothy Award, as well as the Principal’s Award. He was elected to be on the National Congress of Future Medical Leaders, receiving a full scholarship to attend the gathering in Lowell, Massachusetts.

     LaJoie enjoys music, sports, the outdoors, and spending time with his family. He plans to attend Colby College in the fall to pursue a chemistry degree in pre-med.

     Soucy is the daughter of Debby Morneault and stepfather Michael Morneault of Van Buren. She is the secretary and treasurer for the National Honor Society, secretary for her senior class, and active in Project Graduation.

     She has volunteered with Catholic Youth Ministries, Bible Camp, and also works as a dietary aide/assistant cook. She has played soccer during her high school career.

     Soucy enjoys nature, cycling and animal activism. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono in the fall to pursue a degree in psychology.
