Results for Long-Smith GOP primary due July 5, 2016
It will not be until after Independence Day that the official results of the Maine Senate District 2 Republican primary are released, according to the Maine Secretary of State.
Ricky Long, a state representative and logger from Sherman, and Emily Smith, a Presque Isle city councillor and farmer, were vying in the Republican primary to run for the state Senate seat, which represents an area of northern Penobscot and southern and central Aroostook counties.
Since neither candidate has requested a recount, the election results were not expedited and will not be released until 20 days after the June 16 primary, which will be Tuesday, July 5, said
Kristen Schulze Muszynski, communications director for the Department of the Secretary of State.
The winner of the primary will go on to face Democratic candidate Michael Carpenter of Houlton, to replace Republican Mike Willette of Presque Isle, who is not seeking re-election.
