Caribou ski teams prevail in meet

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Caribou girls and boys captured wins in a Nordic varsity ski meet held last Wednesday at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle.

     The girls edged Madawaska by two points (26-28), with Fort Kent, third, Fort Fairfield, fourth and Ashland, fifth.

Caribou skiers Erin Kashian (22:39.4), Ciara Richards (2:51.5) and Madeline Gudde (23:02.3) finished in consecutive order in the fourth, fifth and sixth positions.

     Jojo Fields was the fourth scorer, placing 11th in 25:35.7.

     The Tigers’ Jessica Halsey came in 10th overall in 25:34.6.

     Isabelle Jandreau of Madawaska picked up the individual win in 20:07.9.

     The Vikings boys also pulled off a close victory, by just four points over Fort Kent (21-25). Following were Presque Isle (55), Madawaska (66) and Ashland (69).

     Finishing among the top 10 were Caribou skiers Bryce Coffin (third, 17:51.9), Caleb Brown (fifth, 18:59.3), Emerson Duplissie-Cyr (sixth, 19:20.9) and Evan Desmond (seventh, 19:41.8).

     The race winner was Presque Isle’s Max Bartley in 16:31.7.

     In Friday’s alpine meet held at Bigrock Ski Area in Mars Hill, Hope Shea was 16th in 2:04.27 and Maren Moir 19th in 2:05.35 in the first race of the day. Shea moved up to 10th in the second race in 2:02.45 and Moir improved to 14th in 2:07.9.

     For the boys, Scott Bray led the way by placing 13th in the first race in 1:39.64 and 22nd in the second in 1:47.42. Tiernan Barbosa, Nathan Pitre, Ghent Durepo and Aidan Plante also competed for the Viking boys.

      The Caribou squads did not figure in the team results as Fort Kent swept all four races.
