CARIBOU — Last night’s storm hit Maine and Aroostook County hard, and local meteorologists say the region can expect another half inch of snow by the end of the day.

According to Rich Norton of the National Weather Service in Caribou, most areas in Aroostook County received about 10 inches.

As of 7 a.m. this morning, Norton says the storm brought 12 inches of snow to Madawaska and Van Buren, 11.8 to Fort Kent, 10.9 to Caribou, 11.6 to New Sweden, 11.3 to Caswell, and 8.5 inches to the Houlton area.

“Winds are starting to pick up,” said Norton. “We’re expecting them to sustain around 20 to 25 miles per hour with gusts around 35. Thankfully, the snow is heavy and will not blow as much as it could have if it had lower water content.”

While the storm has mostly passed, Norton advises anyone driving to be safe on the roads.
