United Baptist Church celebrated its building mortgage retirement on Sunday, May 7. In May 2005, the church undertook a large building renovation and addition project, taking on significant debt for the project, and church members pledged their giving toward payment.

During the entire 12 years from 2005 to 2017, the members of the church continued to give their pledges along with holding several additional fundraising events. Because of the generosity and faithful giving the final payments were made three years early and the mortgage was retired in a ceremony held at the church.

United Baptist Church hosted the spring meeting of the Southern Aroostook Baptist Association and several of the member churches were in attendance to join in the celebration. Pastor Ben Green gave the address and joined by Trustee Dwayne Hartin and church member Bob Dunphy shredded the mortgage.
