PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 6 p.m., the Presque Isle Elks will host a Flag Day Ceremony at the Elks Lodge, located at 508 Main Street in Presque Isle.

According to Marion Donahue, Exalted Ruler of the Presque Isle Lodge 1954, “The Elks Flag Day ceremony is open to the public. It will feature pageantry, patriotic music, a presentation by the Loring Job Corps color guard of various flags of historical significance in the evolution of the flag of our nation, as well as relevant remarks by Brig. Gen. Brent Boyles, U.S. Army Retired.”

Donahue added, “Flag Day has been recognized in the halls of every Elks Lodge in this nation for over 100 years. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of a national flag for the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. It is especially fitting that Flag Day should be celebrated at the Elks’ Lodge in this city, as the Presque Isle Elks has repeatedly been recognized by our city council as the most patriotic organization in this community.”

Flag Day also has a close connection to the United States Army, whose birthday is also on June 14, 1777, when the Continental Army of the United States was adopted by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

At the conclusion of the Flag Day ceremony, the Elks will serve a light meal free of charge to all those in attendance.
