Tennis players earn conference honors

The Penobscot Valley Conference’s all-star and all-academic teams for Class B and C tennis were recently announced and are as follows:

Class B boys’ tennis

First team, singles: Paul Branch, John Bapst; Alec Cyr, Caribou, Bojia Yang, Foxcroft Academy; doubles: Tommy Carmack and Tien Duong, John Bapst; Bailey Griffeth and Emerson Duplissie-Cyr, Caribou.

Second team, singles: Darren Hanscom, John Bapst; Andre Daigle, Presque Isle, Parker Deprey, Caribou, doubles: Colby Clarke and Cody Grover,Ellsworth; September Murray and Gabe Michael, Mount Desert Island.

John Habeeb of Caribou was named coach of the year and Branch the player of the year.

Class B girls’ tennis

First team, singles: Gabrielle Marquis, Caribou; Crystal Bell, John Bapst, Ellie Bridgers, MDI; doubles: Conner Spencer and Hailey Holmquist, Caribou; Ciara Richards and Danielle Hanson, Caribou.

Second team, singles: Ashley Matlock, Caribou; Sarah Morneault, Presque Isle; and Alexa Grant, Ellsworth; doubles: Rachel Jacobs and Emily Banks, MDI; Maddie Pullen and Paige Plissey, Hermon.

Habeeb was the coach of the year and Marquis the player of the year.

Class C boys’ tennis

First team, singles: Peter Bulatovic, Lee Academy; Yontz Sutton, Washington Academy; Ben Politte, George Stevens Academy; doubles: Arlo Stablar and Kent Fang, GSA; Eric Smith and Joey Moore, Washington Academy;

Second team, singles: Ben Blood, Orono; Brady Harding, Penobscot Valley; and ,Jeff Garfield, Mattanawcook Academy; doubles: Tyler Tolman and Alex Brown, Mattanawcook Academy; Calvin Murphy and Joe Sheppard, Orono.

Third team, singles: William Strauch, Dexter; Boris Chen, GSA; and John Farrington, Mattanawcook Academy; doubles: Zac Noyes and Zach Dubay, Lee Academy; Jeremy Hartford and David Lindsay, PVHS.

Honorable mention, singles: Chandler Perkins, Dexter; and Eben Cooley, Piscataquis.

Mark Ensworth of GSA was named coach of the year and Bulatovic the player of the year.

Class C girls’ tennis

First team, singles: Lindsay Nevin, GSA; Haley Donovan, Calais; and Miriah Chapman, Piscataquis; doubles: Emily Tolman and Katey Libby, Mattanawcook Academy; Daphne Murphy and Rebecca Gallant, Orono.

Second team, singles: Natalie Tilton, Mattanawcook Academy; Olivia McCormack, Orono; Audrey Nicholas, Lee Academy; doubles: Delaney Kneeland and Sydney Jones, Mattanawcook Academy; Emily Witham and Leah Costello, Orono.

Third team, singles: Jordyn Judkins, Deer Isle-Stonington; Lindsay Wells, Orono; and Ava Broderick, Mattanawcook Academy; doubles: Yvonne Rodgers and Chloe Politte, GSA; Nicole Chandler and Elena Dobmeier, Lee Academy.

Honorable mention, singles: Julianna Allen, GSA; and Rebecca Mooers, Houlton.

Aaron Ward of Mattanawcook was the coach of the year and Nevin the player of the year.

All-Academic

Local players on the all-academic team were Owen Gallop, Tessa McCormick and Nadja Messerschmidt, all of Houlton; Sarah Morneault of Presque Isle and Kelly Nicklaus of Caribou.
