Need A long-felt need in Caribou is about to be realized.  While all the larger towns of the county have been favored by having hospitals, Caribou has been without any semblance of an institution of this nature, and the fact that the town is to have one will prove a source of general satisfaction.

Pump — A pump was installed Friday in the well on Collins Street recently drilled by the town to furnish pure drinking water.

Weekend bandits — The “weekend bandits” are at it again, says Chief of Police Rufus Bernard.  This time, the bandits broke into the Guimond Farms office on the Grimes Road early Monday morning to “jimmy” open a 600- to 700-pound safe and make off with $943 in cash.  The break was the third major one in a series of eight nighttime or early morning entries in the Caribou area this spring and early summer.  In nighttime rifling, the amount of $1,00 was taken from the United Baptist Church, $800 in breaks into Caribou High School and the New Sweden, Woodland and Connor Elementary Schools.

Higher education 211 students of the graduating class of Caribou High School this year, or 45 percent of them, have announced intentions of going on for advanced education.  64 of the class have already accepted four-year college courses, while 41 have enrolled for commercial, technical or nursing training.  Six have signed up for post-graduate courses.

Lombard condition Residents of the Lombard Road Tuesday night sounded fed up with the condition of their street as 27 people at a public hearing before the Caribou City Council grumbled about ruts, potholes, excessive dust and bleeding tar.  Although the one-mile stretch of road between Washburn and New Sweden roads is due for a layer of seal this summer, residents of the 31 homes on the street believe the road needs the attention of an engineer and a layer of hot top.
