CARIBOU, Maine — A two vehicle accident in front of Sleeper’s on Saturday sent three people to the hospital and shut down traffic for about 30 minutes.

The accident happened at about 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Route 1 and Lyndon St., according to Caribou police.

One vehicle struck a second vehicle on the middle rear driver’s side, causing that hit vehicle to spin out, police reported. After the collision, the first vehicle continued on, eventually coming to rest against the Sleeper’s building.

The driver whose vehicle was struck suffered mild injuries and the driver and passenger of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to police. All involved were transported by ambulance to Cary Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation. Caribou police did not release the names of the drivers and passengers or more information.

Both vehicles were disabled and had to be towed from the scene.

The Sleeper’s store building sustained “little to no” damage.
