BENEDICTA, Maine — A portion of the Aroostook Road will soon be getting an upgrade as part of a paving project approved by the Aroostook County Commissioners at their July 19 meeting.
Public Works Director Paul Bernier explained that the project, which will cost about $135,000, involves grinding, repaving and working on shoulders for about 7,450 feet of the Aroostook Road to bring it up do code.
“This will be a complete re-paving of a portion of the Aroostook Road,” Bernier said. “The road itself is about 15 miles long, but we are only working on a portion of it.”
Work will be performed just south of the Casey Road intersection. The first phase involves grinding of about 3,000 feet of road in different locations, followed by raising the road about 1.5 inches before it is ultimately re-paved.
The road will not be closed during construction as one lane will remain open for travel. Work is being done by Steelstone of Houlton and is expected to begin within the next two weeks, Bernier said.
