Paul E. Durost

MARS HILL, Maine – Paul E. Durost passed away on August 13, 2017 at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. Paul was born on February 14, 1922 in Wicklow, New Brunswick, to J. Everett and Lillian (Giberson) Drost.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. Upon return from the service, Paul met and married Betty (Collins) and joined the family farm with his brother Burton. Paul retired from farming in 1971 and became the administrator of the Aroostook Health Center. He served as a MSAD 42 school board member, Maine State School Board, and a Rotary past president.
Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years. They have four children: Richard and his wife Marcelle of Wiscasset, a set of triplets: Jay and his wife Mary of Bucksport, Joy Graham and her husband Bob of Naples, and Jan and his wife Connie of Mars Hill. They have eleven grandchildren: Scott, Jeremy, Brad, Reid, Ashley, Kate, Emily, Jennie, David, Shane and Craig. Also they have thirteen great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved spending time with: Lyndsie, Julia, Savannah, Bella, Brady, Brooklyn, Bo, Nathan, Derek, Anna, Niah, Hayden and Avery. He is also survived by his brother James and his wife Peggy of Houlton, sisters-in-law Anna Marie Drost of Indiana, Barb Collins of Blaine, DeeDee Fletcher of Mars Hill, brother-in-law Rod Collins and his wife Judy of Bridgewater and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, his in laws Ellery and Ethel Collins, brother Woody, brother- and sister-in-law Burton and Launa, brothers-in-law Harold Fletcher, Bud Collins, Ralph Grass, sister-in-law Maxine Grass and a special young boy named Bobby.
A private family graveside committal service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Tapley Cemetery in Blaine. Family and friends are invited to a time of fellowship at the East Ridge Union Church basement at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aroostook Health Center Activities Fund.
