HOULTON, Maine — The Aroostook County Action Program is currently recruiting women for a WorkReady/OSHA 10 group to begin at the Houlton Higher Education Center on May 7, and will host two information sessions on April 25.
The first session will be at 12 p.m. at the ACAP office on Military Street, and again at 6 p.m. at the Houlton Higher Education Center.
ACAP was one of four agencies nationwide to earn a Women in Apprenticeship and Non-Traditional Occupations (WANTO) grant to help train women for high-wage careers in non-traditional jobs.
The goal of the grant is to prepare women for employment right away or help create an apprenticeship with a local business.
It begins with a WorkReady credential recognized by employers across the state. This 60-hour program covers appropriate workplace behavior, digital literacy, best ways to get and keep a job, and includes an introduction to local companies who can offer employment in non-traditional occupations. Participants can also earn an OSHA 10 certificate, which provides an overview of health and safety hazards present in the workplace.
This certificate is accepted in 50 states and ensures employers that safety is important to the cardholder.
