August festival will return to Washburn

WASHBURN, Maine — The Washburn August Festival committee has announced that they will indeed host this year’s annual event Aug. 17-19.

This year’s theme will be Salute to our Veterans. The committee encourages all who have served, from WWII to today’s conflicts, to come and march in the annual parade. Organizers invite all servicemen and women from Washburn, Perham and Wade to lead the parade in full dress uniform, followed by other veterans of foreign wars and individuals from surrounding areas.

A dedication ceremony will declare the town’s park as a veterans memorial following the parade.

Other events for the weekend will include music from Star City Syndicate, Warner Archer and Paul Clayton and Friends. The Saturday night street dance will close with a performance by Wally and the Virginian.

There will be the annual barbecue contest and, of course, the alumni banquet, along with a craft fair and other activities for all ages to enjoy.

Food vendors should contact the Washburn August Festival Committee to reserve a place.

The festival committee greatly appreciates donations to help us continue this town tradition. Send donations to Washburn August Festival, P.O. Box 45, Washburn Maine 04786.
