NEW SWEDEN, Maine – Steven Frederick Sandstrom, 56, died on June 5, 2018, at Presque Isle surrounded by his family at the Aroostook House of Comfort, following a valiant fight with cancer. He was born in Caribou on February 15, 1962, the son of the late Frederick and Gloria (Johnson) Sandstrom.
Steven was a 1980 graduate of Caribou High School and he married Sally Bourgoine on May 20, 1988. He was employed by Caribou Agway for several years, Soderberg Construction for 20 years, and more recently had worked for Jim and May Martin at J.P Martin Construction.
He was a member of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church. Steven truly enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time with his family at the Westin Camp at Blackstone.
Surviving in addition to his wife of over 30 years, Sally of New Sweden, are his son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Abby Sandstrom, of Caribou; the joy of his life, and sparkle in his eye, his granddaughter, Emma, and a grandson to be born in September; one sister, Susan McCarthy of Caribou, three brothers, Scott Sandstrom of Stockholm, Shawn Sandstrom and his wife, Hope, of New Sweden, and Simon Sandstorm and his wife, April, of Gorham; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends visited with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018, from the New Sweden Cemetery with Rev. Robert Smith, officiating.
