DANFORTH, Maine — The Board of Directors of the East Grand Health Center announced that on April 16, John Massey began his tenure as their newest administrator.
Massey is a native of Danforth and returns to the area after earning his bachelor’s degree from Stetson University in May of 2016. He plans to pursue his master of business administration beginning this fall.
Before becoming the administrator of EGHC, Massey most recently worked as the Natural Resources Program Manager at Sunrise County Economic Council in Machias and also worked at Calais Regional Hospital in their registration department. He moved back to Maine last year after serving as the Medical Services Coordinator for Mid-Florida Community Services Head Start.
Massey is community-minded and is looking forward to expanding services to draw patients back to the health center.
“East Grand Health Center is an incredible facility with a devoted staff and board of directors,” he said. “It is abound with opportunity and we are confident that we can position ourselves as the health center of choice for our patients and providers. I am incredibly eager to get to work on accomplishing this goal as the newest member of the team.”
Massey is replacing Adelaide Carter, who left the administrator’s position at East Grand Health Center to move with her husband and children to Arizona. She worked at the clinic for three years and is hoping to continue her career in medical management.
“I enjoyed my work at EGHC tremendously and will miss the community very much,” Carter said in a press release. “However, I know that the health center is in good hands with its new leadership and I expect to see great continued success.”
While Carter was administrator, the clinic added suboxone treatment to its services, secured funds for a generator, and increased community involvement.
East Grand Health Center is a Federally-Qualified Health Center that serves the greater East Grand Lakes region. It was the first rural health center to open in the state, having served its first patients in the early 1960s.
