ALISTON ‘AL’ D. JEWELL, MONTICELLO – Aliston “Al” D. Jewell, 95, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Madigan Estates. He was born September 28, 1922, in Monticello, the son of Emery and Bertha (Tilley) Jewell.
Al grew up in Monticello and graduated from Ricker Classical Institute. In the early forties he built his dream home from wood off the family farm. In 1947, he married Vella Kilcollins, who was his sweetheart, best friend and business associate. They worked together side by side their entire lives together. Al’s life was spent working as a potato grower and shipper with his brother, Leon and son, Buz. He did not have hobbies but enjoyed spending time listening to other peoples stories as well as telling his. He was a member of many committees and clubs.
Al is survived by a daughter, Marie Hutchinson; a son, Buz Jewell and his wife, Lynda, who was very caring to Al; five grandchildren, Nicole, Jasen, Jessica, Lindsey and Lisa; four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his wife, Vella Jewell; a granddaughter, Darcie Hutchinson; a son-in-law, Carl Hutchinson; two brothers and their wives, Leon Jewell and his wife, Julia, Clair Jewell and his wife, Frances; a sister, Madeline Briggs and her husband, Warner; and a nephew, Dale Jewell. The family would like to express a special thank you to Madigan Estates, along with Dr. Abouleish, for the exceptional care given to Al.
Friends may call 11 AM Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Dunn Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be conducted at 12 Noon with the Rev. Carl DeMerchant officiating. The committal service at Jewell Cemetery will be private.
