Maine Community Foundation establishes Community Broadband grant program

PORTLAND, Maine — A new Maine Community Foundation fund will provide community broadband grants of up to $15,000 for eligible Maine nonprofit organizations and communities.

The Community Broadband Grant Program aims to increase the number of Maine people, communities, and businesses with access to high-speed internet service and improve skills, opportunities, and knowledge to effectively use the technology.

The grant program is purposefully broad to accommodate a range of projects. Examples of potential grant projects include community meetings to assess internet needs, research to advance local or regional broadband planning, digital inclusion efforts or costs related to the creation of Wi-Fi hotspots.

The deadline for applications is October 15. MaineCF will announce grants in December, and the grant funds must be used during 2019.

A grant information session will take place in August. For further information visit http://www.mainecf.org/GrantsNonprofits/AvailableGrantsDeadlines/CommunityBroadbandGrants.aspx.

MaineCF is headquartered in Ellsworth, with additional personnel in Portland, Dover-Foxcroft and Mars Hill.
