LIMESTONE, Maine — The selectmen interviewed another applicant for the position of town manager on Monday during a closed executive session.
They took no action afterward, according to Interim Town Manager Tom Stevens, and because two of the five board members are working during the harvest break, it is unclear when they will be able to collectively hold another executive session to discuss the applicants further.
Stevens recalled that when he first began his career in municipal administration years ago, towns would post agendas that indicated the next meeting would occur on “the next rainy day” due to most officials working the fall harvest.
“I’m not quite sure you could do that today,” he said with a laugh.
While the next Selelct Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3, only three of the five members will be available and therefore will not discuss the topic of a new manager, which the town has been seeking for nearly a year.
“The board has been very good about meeting on off nights,” said Stevens. “We were able to get them all together on Monday night, but not for Wednesday.”
While no decision will be made Wednesday on the town manager position, Stevens said the agenda for the meeting contains several noteworthy items.
Those selectmen present will meet with the Library Board of Trustees, hear a presentation from the Limestone Water and Sewer District regarding a solar array project at the former Limestone Industrial Park on the Albert road, and discuss Limestone’s boost in rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) regarding the Limestone Fire Department’s level of protection, which Stevens said may lower insurance costs for local businesses and residents.
