PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — When you hear that teens have taken over the Sargent Family Community Center in Presque Isle, don’t panic; it’s a good thing.
The Presque Isle Boys and Girls Club will host the second Teen Takeover Night, titled “Teens Take Over the New Year,” on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the center.
Like the first event held in October, which drew more than 30 teens, the event will feature games, music, food and more. The chance to make their own healthy smoothies was a big hit at the fall session.
The PIBGC is spearheading the initiative. The Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP), The Aroostook Band of Micmacs, The Presque Isle Recreation Center, Native Connections, Northern Lighthouse and the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have all joined forces with the club to make this an even more memorable event than the first one.
The club’s goal is to provide these events on a consistent, regular basis, said club officials, which would give teens an opportunity to enjoy many of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s outcome-based initiatives the BGCA offers along with giving teens an opportunity to give back to the community in a constructive way.
All merchants, organizations and nonprofits are encouraged to jump on board by sponsoring a food table, offering products or gift cards for a raffle, demonstrating products of interest to teens or even recruiting teens for service projects.
