115 Years Ago – Jan. 29, 1904

    Business trip Mrs. Geo. E. Young, experienced dressmaker, has returned from Boston with samples of all goods, linings and trimmings, 21 Green St.

100 Years Ago – Jan. 29, 1919

    Renovations The Robinson Grocery is resplendent in a brand-new coat of white paint and a rearrangement of shelving and stock, making it most attractive in appearance.

    Making changes The Meduxnekeag Club has recently made some changes in the interior of their building, whereby they have added a room in which they have placed their billiards table, thus giving the space it formerly occupied over the bowling alleys.

75 Years Ago – Feb. 3, 1944

    Buying trip Mrs. Sara Trickey will leave Monday on a buying trip in Boston and New York. In the latter city she will attend the New York Gift and Art Show. She will also visit relatives in Providence, R.I., before returning home.

Business trip Clayton Currie and Sherwood Kelso left Wednesday for Boston on a business trip in connection with the Dunn Furniture Store.

50 Years Ago – Jan. 29, 1969

    Elected trustee Oscar P. Benn, president of F. A. Peabody Insurance Company of Houlton, was one of 11 Maine residents elected to the board of trustees of The Arthritis Foundation, Pine Tree Chapter, during its 13th annual chapter meeting.

    Receives plaque Conservation technician George Ritchie of the Soil Conservation Service in Houlton was presented a distinguished service plaque in recognition of his 11 years of outstanding technical services provided to district cooperators in the Mars Hill, Easton and Fort Fairfield areas. The award was presented by Supervisor Harold Anderson.

25 Years Ago – Feb. 2, 1994

   New groomer The Linneus Sno-Sports have purchased a new grooming machine to aid in maintaining the 90-plus miles of trails in their area. The Belarus tractor with four-wheel drive independent track system is a new concept in groomers. The overall length of the tractor and drag is 40 feet. The tractor has 85 horsepower. The track system is manufactured by Richard Lagassie of Caribou with a patent pending on the system. The drag was manufactured by DBJ McGuire and Willie Lynds of Houlton.  

   New program — The first organized schoolwide volunteer effort at Houlton Elementary School is alive and growing by leaps and bounds due to the combined efforts of teachers and involved parents. According to Ann Bell, Houlton Elementary School Chapter I teacher and volunteer coordinator, school volunteers have contributed approximately 230 hours or a total of 40 work days of volunteer time since she began recording volunteer hours on Nov. 1 of last year.
