Sen. Carpenter invites local students to Augusta for Honorary Page program

AUGUSTA, Maine — With the Legislature back in session, Sen. Mike Carpenter, D-Houlton, reminds local schools and students about the Senate Honorary Page program at the State House in Augusta.

The daylong program gives students a unique opportunity not only to observe the state’s legislative process, but to be a part of it. Students from third grade through high school are encouraged to participate.

“I’m very excited to host students who are interested in government, politics, history or the legislative process as Honorary Pages at the State House,” said Sen. Carpenter. “It is valuable to learn how Maine state government works, and this is a great opportunity for students, whether they are studying government in school or might see a future for themselves in public service.”

Honorary pages help deliver messages, distribute documents within the Senate Chamber, interact with the senators and, most importantly, take part in a real-world, interactive legislative learning experience.

Sen. Carpenter sends a personal invitation to students who make the  honor roll. The Legislature is scheduled to be in session through late June. Honorary pages are needed throughout the session, so scheduling is flexible.
