HOULTON, Maine — Young actors will take the stage as Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre presents “Stories of the Ancients” on Friday, April 5, at 6 p.m., and Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m.

The play will be performed at Houlton Community Arts Center, Houlton Middle-High School.

Directed by Mary Miller, “Stories of the Ancients” is a stage interpretation of four Native American legends from different tribal nations, along with original children’s dialog. As reluctant kids at a campfire unexpectedly encounter tribal elders emerging from the woods, they find themselves portraying the story each elder brings, discovering new understandings about themselves and Native American culture, and having some fun along the way.

Area children in third through sixth grade perform in the play, and youth are also involved in various aspects of its production. There is no admission, but donations will be accepted.

Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre is in its 51st year of continuous production of plays “for children, by children.” It began under the auspices of Ricker College, and is a volunteer organization supported by the greater Houlton community.
