From the Bunkers – Week of May 13, 2019

NEW LIMERICK, Maine — We’ve had a good week of play since opening on Wednesday. It’s been cool weather, and a little damp. I’m just wondering when we will get warmer temperatures so that we can proceed with reseeding a few of the dead spots on our greens.

Until then the seeds will not germinate properly. We will be reconditioning the Bunkers this week, mowing the fairways, and continuing clean up and begin mowing the roughs. We are still planning on a volunteer cleanup day on Saturday, May 25, starting at 8:30 a.m. Burgers and drinks will be provided. More people means quicker work.

If you can spare a few hours for your course, please call the pro shop so we can get a rough count for the food. I would like to thank Larry Holmes for volunteering his time to weatherproof the patio deck. It really looks good Larry.

The Ladies Association held their Opening Banquet on Tuesday, May 14, at the Lakeside Restaurant. First day of Ladies play will be Tuesday, May 28 with a scramble format. Weather permitting, of course. The HCGC Memorial Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, at noon this game will honor past members that have passed on and all members and friends are invited to play. Signup sheet is on the event wall in the bar.

The Men’s League begins June 10. There are three flights in this handicap League, 3PM, 4PM, and 5PM. Call the clubhouse to sign your team up. Only 30 two-man teams can be accommodated.

The Lakeside Restaurant had a full house for Sunday Mother’s Day Dinner. They are now open for their regular season hours, featuring Chef Bill’s Spring menu. Call Nancy at 694-9494 to make your reservations.

I would invite you to get your clubs out and venture onto the golf course this week to enjoy your course. Power golf carts are allowed now and I played the course for the first time on Sunday and found there were very few wet areas on the course. I hope to see you out there this week.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662 or email houltongolf@gmail.com
