STOCKHOLM, Maine — A motorcycle struck a bicycle in Stockholm on July 26, leading to both drivers being transported to Cary Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, according to a press release sent by Maine State Police Cpl. Dennis Quint.
The cyclist, David Wakana, 59, of Caribou, was traveling south on Route 161 and signaled to turn onto Lake Street, but paused when he observed a northbound vehicle. The motorcycle driver traveling behind him, Jeffrey Gregory, 64, of Naples, attempted to pass Wakana on the right side at this time, which led to him striking the rear of the bicycle.
Police report that Gregory then “went off the right side of the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.” Both were transported to the local hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Caribou Fire and Ambulance.
In addition to the ambulance, State Trooper Nathan Desrosier was assisted by members of the Maine Warden Service, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, and Maine Forest Service.
Gregory’s 2016 Indian Springfield Motorcycle was extensively damaged and subsequently removed by Mark’s Towing.
State Police indicated via email that they do not have any photos of the incident.
